When to visit and how to reach Tungnath and Chandrashila

From March to November is the right time to visit here. Although it can come at any time, but due to the high snow in the winter, the path closes. And its too much colder in winter season. So, Tourists do not like to visit here during the month of December to February.

There are two ways to get here

1. Gopeshwar from Rishikesh 212 km, and Gopeshwar to Chopta 40 KM.

2. Rishikesh from Ukhimath 183 km, and Ukhimath to Chopta 25 km. Regular bus service is available from Rishikesh to Gopeshwar. Further, bus and sharing jeep and private taxi can also be visited. The nearest railway station is Haridwar which is connected to all parts of the country. The nearest airport is at Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun.

A small and very beautiful hill station of Uttarakhand is Chopta, who welcomes those who come from the open arms of their friends. By the way, there is a tremendous package of natural beauty and adventure in its hospitality.

If you are known from a crowded hill station, where you get peace and comfort, then Chopta is the most suitable place for you. Surrounded by a thick forest, this place is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 12 thousand feet above sea level.

Tungnath Temple

After three kilometer walk on Chopta, there is a Tungnath temple at an altitude of 13 thousand feet. This temple built on Tungnath Hill is considered a thousand years old and here one of the five Kedars of Lord Shiva is worshiped.

According to a mythological story, this temple was built by Pandavas to please Lord Shiva, who was angry with the Pandavas due to the massacre in Kurukshetra. You will also get the convenience of horse to go to Tungnath. There are several dhabas on the way, where tea water is arranged. After climbing halfway you will see just grass fields.

Time to go from here is from May to November. However, if you want to enjoy the snow, you can go here from January to February.

Chandrashila peak

Chandrishila peak at 14 thousand feet after the steep climbing of about two kilometers from Tungnath. Only here can be reached on foot. From here the Himalayas are so close that it seems as if they will touch it. By the way, this place is so high that it will also feel the lack of oxygen here.

Deoria Tal

After reaching the distance of about eight kilometers from Chopta, Deoria Tal can be reached, which is in the north side of the Tungnath temple. The specialty of this rhythm is that here you can see the image of snow-clad peaks, such as Chaukhambha, Nilkanth etc. This rhythm spreads in the range of 500 meters. On one side is the bamboo and Burundi jungle and the open ground on the other side.

Do not forget woolens

Whether it is summer or winter, it is necessary to always carry woolen clothes in Chopta.

How to reach Chopta

Chopta is located 440 kilometers from Delhi. To reach here, the nearest airport is Jollygrant, which is 221 kilometers away. Jollygrant is connected to Delhi flights from Delhi. From here you reach Gopeshwar while being a Rishikesh. Chopta is 40 kilometers ahead of Gopeswar.

Chopta’s nearest railway station is Rishikesh. It is located 202 kilometers away from Chopta. Bus and taxi can be easily reached from here. Jeep can also be booked for here.
